My experience using OK Story Cards has been a success! I used them with two classes: a small 7-student advanced-level Spanish class and a 15-student intermediate-level class. Both classes found the cards interesting, engaging, and compelling.
The advanced-level class played ’20 Questions’ and ‘Two Truths and a Lie’ with so much joy and plenty of room for vocabulary learning as they warmed up.
The intermediate-level class spent most of their time playing in small groups with rounds of ’20 Questions.’ I am delighted with the potential of these cards and plan to try additional speaking activities listed on the website in the future.
I just finished my first lesson using OK Story Cards with my intermediate students. Since the group is strong, I had to get creative to keep them engaged. Students had to name items or provide adjectives or verbs without repeating but could use synonyms. The winner would be the one whose word, phrase, or sentence was the last. Their interest grew as they caught the competitive spirit. I’ll definitely keep using the cards in future lessons, whether as a warm-up, to introduce vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, or just for fun.
My students really love the cards!! They help to release any tension in the class, and I appreciate the website with the description of the games.
After the pack arrived, I took the cards to my intermediate Russian language class without any pre-planned activities in mind. The topic for that day was using verbal aspect in story-telling. My students were trying to tell stories from their lives, but it wasn’t going well. So, I took out the cards, and the activity took off. There are so many scenarios with unexpected things happening to the characters – missing a plane, spilling a drink on the keyboard, getting stuck in the elevator, dropping a phone in the water… It was refreshing for the students to stop talking about themselves, expand their vocabulary and develop narration skills using this set of colorful and engaging characters and scenarios. Highly recommended!
They are great and very useful for any topic and any language. They really bring out creativity from students and allow them to have fun while speaking. There is also a very extensive collection of games on the website and many ways to use them.
My students love these cards! Our warm-ups at the beginning of class are so fun and engaging now!
They work best for me with the fourth grade cohort in my after school tutoring group for English Language Learners. The great benefit of the cards is the wide variety of applications they have—I can incorporate them well into a variety of lessons. I left a pack on my shelf with other classic games like Scrabble and Tapple – some students (6th and 7th grade English language learners) actually choose OK Cards instead!
Really great “stories” that can be used for any number of purposes and all levels, from Novice to Advanced. Also, the website links are awesome for helping users find appropriate activities.
OK Story Cards are an invaluable resource for any educator or language enthusiast. This set includes 80 beautifully hand-illustrated cards and 20 blank ones, perfect for fostering storytelling, vocabulary development, and interactive communication.
With activities that range from beginner-friendly to advanced-level, these cards align well with proficiency guidelines such as ACTFL’s. The durability and compact design make them a practical tool for classrooms, workshops, and home learning. They are suitable for children, teenagers and adults. I have used them for conversation building and for ice-breaking activities. Whether you’re engaging a small group or a diverse classroom, OK Story Cards offer a versatile, fun, and engaging learning experience
Thank you so much for the OK Story Cards! I used them with one of my advanced-level classes (students in their 3rd-4th year of study). The task was to create a fairy tale based on the image and the results were absolutely fantastic! The students worked in groups of three, and they dove into the activity with immense enthusiasm and joy, creating wonderful stories. The students loved the activity. They mentioned that the cards provided them with ideas and inspiration (mission accomplished!). In the process, they even had to look up unfamiliar words they wouldn’t have encountered otherwise—like when working with the card featuring astronauts, Martians, and the yeti. This part of the activity was particularly interesting for them. Overall, the cards really helped spark creativity and language discovery in a fun, engaging way!
